STUDENT ATTENDANCE
Attendance is important and should be a part of every student's plan and goals. Regular attendance will aid in the successful completion of the academic work. It is strongly urged that students select a schedule they can adhere to and
that absences are kept to a minimum. Excessive absences may cause a student to be dropped from a class. Students
are encouraged to call the office when they are unable to attend. The office phone for Zimmerman is (810) 760-7763
or Broome (810) 7601638.
Illness, family problems, transportation, work schedules and health problems are the most common reasons for absences. Appointments of any kind should be scheduled before and after school when possible. If you are employed,
please share a copy of your school schedule with your employer.
Our official policy states that after excessive absences (more than 25% of the class time), a student could be
dropped. However, often other arrangement can be made. Your teacher(s) may refer you to another class, a GED lab or
an agreed upon site when appropriate.
Concerns or special circumstances regarding your attendance should be directed to a student advisor.
NIGHT CLASSES
Night classes for Mott Adult High School students are offered at the Zimmerman Center on Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 5:45 p.m. to 9:35 p.m. Only students ages 18 and older or those in good standing may take
these night classes.
Students enrolled in the regular daytime K-12 high school programs may take night classes for additional credit
if they have permission slips from their school counselors, have either junior or senior status, and pay a class tuition. Any
other questions about night classes should be directed to the Zimmerman Center advisory staff.
ACADEMIES
Students enrolled in an academy will develop problem-solving, organization, teamwork, and communications skills through hands-on project based learning. Zimmerman Center is offering the Arts and Communications Academy and the Business and Marketing Academy. Broome Center is offering the Human Services Academy.
STUDENT PARKING
Students who drive to school must park in the designated student parking lot only. It is the responsibility of the
student to make sure his/her car is locked and legally parked. Safety rules and regulations should be followed at all times. Disregarding parking rules can cause forfeiture of the student's driving privilege to school. Students are not to be in the parking lot during instructional hours.
SEVERE WEATHER AND SCHOOL CLOSING
In the event of inclement weather, MAHS will be closed if Flint Community Schools are closed. School district
policy, in general, is not to close down schools unless weather and road conditions are such that they pose possible
hazards and danger to students. Flint's radio and television stations will carry announcements regarding school closings.
CODE OF STUDENT CONDUCT
The school district Code of Student Conduct contains rules and regulations necessary for maintaining an educational environment
that is conducive to maximum learning.
